Sir Isaac Newton proposed his First Law of Motion, the Law of Inertia, in 1687: A body at rest tends to remain at rest. A body in motion tends to stay in motion. Bodies will continue in their current state, whether at rest or in motion, unless acted on by a greater outside force.
The same can be said about change. In order to change – whether it’s to lose 10 pounds, wake up earlier or change careers – we have to recognize that there is inertia (resistance) holding us in place and it will take greater effort to initiate the change than not to change. Yet, once we start down the path of change, momentum will board. The challenge is to take the first step to overcome inertia.
What is the inertia holding you back?
